A semiotic analysis on English textbook covers of second grade English young learners
Semiotic is a study of sign. This researcher analyses about semiotic analysis on English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners. This study focuses on the covers of textbook. The data, the research used Charles Sanders Pierce's theory. The purpose of study are 1) to find out the types of sign on English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners, and 2) to know the most dominant type of sign on English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners.
The used descriptive qualitative method. The data source uses three English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners which have many signs to be analyzed as the data the research. And to collect the the researcher downloads three English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners. The main instrument is the researcher himself. First, analyses the types of sign English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners Second, the finds the most dominant type of sign English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners.
The result of the research shows that on three English textbook Covers of second grade English young learners are found types of signs. 1) There are two types on the object which are icons, indexes, and symbols have been found on the three English textbook covers. Based on the representamen, are qualisign, sinsign and have been found on English textbook covers. 2) Type of sign Based on the object of sign, the most dominant used in this research of the English textbook covers is index. The index has the highest frequency compered the icon and symbol, which is by frequency 11 and the percentage is 26.8% When the most dominant type of representamen is sinsign with frequency 8 and the percentage is 19.5%
