Subject verb agreement errors in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of SMKN 2 Kediri
Error in writing is difficult to avoid by every learner, especially in using subject agreement. The basic problem of learning subject agreement is that the have many kinds of rules determining the verb which follows its subject. Therefore, analyzing the subject verb agreement errors is one of appropriate ways to give some contributions on attempts to deal with the students' difficulties. The objectives of the study to find out types and the most frequent type of subject verb agreement errors in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of SMKN 2 Kediri.
This research was a descriptive qualitative research design which was describing the reality behind phenomenon deeply and descriptively. The instrument of this study is the researcher herself and supported by interview and writing test. In online class, Thirty six in XI Accounting 5 were asked to write descriptive text on the topics provided. This class was chosen because the students had studied and practiced to write descriprive text in the last semester. This study analyzed subject verb agreement errors in the students' descriptive writing based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Dulay, Burt and Krashen (1982)
The finding showed that the participants contributed the three types of subject verb agreement errors in their descriptive writing, those were omission (38%), addition (8%) and misformation (54%), then misordering error was not found in this research. The most frequent type of subject verb agreement error contributed by the eleventh grade students of SMKN 2 Kediri on their descriptive writing was misformation with the occurrence 27 errors and the percentage is 54%
