Using storytelling technique to increase speaking quality of the eight grade students of MTsN 1 Nganjuk
Speaking is one of the most important skills in learning a foreign language, especially English. Speaking is the ability to express, convey ideas or feelings verbally. Researcher found that many students who learn English still have problems communicating with others because their speaking skills have not been developed properly and are supported by the learning process in the classroom which is not yet on target because the learning process do not work optimally with the situation. The purpose of this research was to know the implementation of Storytelling technique in learning speaking for the eight grade students at MTsN 1 Nganjuk.
This research methodology use a classroom action research design with the implementation held in two cycles, one cycle consists of two meetings for about 2 x 40 minutes. This design uses a preliminary study with the test before cyle I and test at the end of cycle 1. Continued to cycle 2 and test in the end of cycle 2. The subject of this research is the students of class VIII MTsN 1 Nganjuk. The samples were taken in the 8B class thath consists of 11 boys and 20 girls. In collecting data, the researcher used planning, observing, implementing, and reflecting as the material. Test instruments speak in oral form. After giving a post-test, the researcher then analyzed the data based on the criteria of success in this research as mentioned more or less 75% or 75 as the minimum score.
The result of this test showed that in the preliminary study, the percentage of achievement was 25.8% or average 64.6. The researcher concluded that the students did as their ability. Than, the percentage of the result of the test at the end of the cycle I was 54.8% or average 73.3. It means that there is a significant increasing in the fisrt cycle, but still cannot reach the minimal criterion of success and the researcher still need the second cycle. In cycle 2, the result of the test showed the percentage was 93.5% or average 76.9. The different with the cycle I was in the implementation, that in cycle 2 the researcher used a group as the trick to make the students easier for practice in the treatment, while in cycle I did not use a group. There was an increasing of the result in the end of the cylce. It is proven with the minimum criteria of successfull was reached. So, it can be concluded that this research using Storytelling technique in this time is success and the Storytelling technique proved can increase students speaking skill ability.
