The effectiveness of using powerpoint in increasing students` understanding on the use of tenses
After do the direct observation for about 4 weeks in eight grade of Islamic junior high school 5 Kediri, researcher found many cases in learning process. Such as; 1) The teacher still uses conventional methods, 2) Some students think that English lessons are difficult to learn, 3) Lack of effective media used by teachers in the classroom. In this case, the research wants to provide a PowerPoint presentation as a media in teaching tenses. Two classes are the sample of this study and its will be experiment group (VIII C) and control group (VII D). Then a quasi-experimental research design was applied to investigate the effectiveness of using PowerPoint in increasing the students' understanding on the use of tenses. To collect the data the researcher uses both pre-test and post-test. After all data is obtained, the data shows whether the data includes in non-parametric data by testing the Normality. Then, to test the hypothesis, the researcher used the formula of Mann Whitney U test by SPSS Version 25. Based on the analysis obtained from the students" post-test control the mean score is 74.60. While the mean score of the students' post-test experiment class is 73.54. And the result of Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) is 0.508 is higher than the probability score (0.05). It indicates that after giving treatment by using PowerPoint as media the students have same understanding than the students that not giving a treatment and the researcher has known in the application of treatment the students' attention be focused in learning, and the students easy to understand the lesson
