The effectiveness of using four square in teaching writing skill
Implementing Four Square technique in teaching writing skill has shown to be effective to students' in senior high school. Four Square technique is the way to help students who are interested and inspired in easy organization in every square they have. This research deals with the effectiveness of using Four Square in teaching writing skill. The objective of this study is to find out the significant difference of students' writing achievement between those students' who are taught by using Four Square and those students who are taught by using Mind Mapping.
The subject of the research is the students at tenth grade of SMAN 6 Kediri, X MIPA 4 and X MIPA 5 classes. The research design is quasi experimental design. It is done by comparing two groups, experimental group and control group. Every group consists of 30 students. The control group is conducted at class X MIPA 4 that is taught writing not using four square technique, while the experimental group is conducted at class X MIPA 5 that is taught writing using four square technique.
In this study, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test to both groups. Then, the result of the test was calculated by using ANCOVA. In the result of pre-test, the mean score of experimental group is 57.86 while the mean score of control group is 54.18. In the post-test, the mean score of experimental group is 73.31, while the mean score of control group is 65.78. Then, the result of ANCOVA shows that the distribution is normal that is p (0.911)>a (0.05). Then, the homogeneity variance of both groups is equal that is p (0.565)> a (0.05). There is no interaction between covariate and independent, as evidenced by p (0.053) > a (0.05). Then, there is a relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable, p (0.000)
