The effectiveness of using youtube in teaching speaking
In learning speaking skill, the students often find some problems. It was their native language causes them difficult to use foreign language. They are afraid to make a mistake in one of conversation and lack of confidence within themselves. One of the reasons why students still have difficulty mastering speaking skills was because the use of old learning media applied by English teacher and the goal was not gotten yet. The research question is Youtube media effective in teaching Speaking?. The aim of this research is to find out whether or not Youtube media is effective in teaching speaking for the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kediri.
The design of this research was quasi-experimental because cannot take the sample randomly. The population was the students of class XI in SMAN 4 Kediri. The samples were two classes that named experimental and control group. The experimental group was class XI MIA 4 that consists of 36 students, meanwhile the control group was class MIA 5 that consists of 36 students. The researcher used tests as the instrument of the research. The format of the test is oral test. In analyzing data, the researcher used Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) by SPSS Program 23.0 version.
The result of this research showed that the data was normally distributed. It was proven by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test that the significant value (p) of tests were .087 for pre-test of the experimental group, .078 for pre-test of the control group. .078 for post-test of the experimental group, and .127 for post-test of the control group. (pa 0.05). The homogeneity variances test shows that (p) was .145 (pa 0.05). The homogeneity regression (Slope) shows that (p) was .085 (pa 0.05).
