The effectiveness of using story completion in teaching speaking to the second grade students of MA Al-Mustofa
This study is to find, if there is significant difference between the students who are taught by using story completion in teaching speaking and those who are not taught by using story completion in teaching speaking at second grade of MA Al-Mustofa Mojokerto.
This thesis is an experimental research. The population of this research is the twelve grade students of MA AL-MUSTOFA Mojokerto. The sample of this research is two classes which are divided into control group (30 students) and experimental group (30 students). This study employed a quasi experimental research. The instrument that is used in collecting data is a test. The result data is computed from story completion in teaching speaking to the second grade students. And then the researcher calculated the test using ANCOVA to know whether there was significant difference between the experimental group and the control group.
The analysis result shows that both groups have different mean score after treatment. The result of the research shows a satisfactory result. The analysis succeeded in verifying that the use of story completion is effective to improve students speaking skills. The ANCOVA test result statistic value sows .004 which is lower than probability value 05 (004-05) and F value is 8.813 (8.813-4.00). According to the results, the students who are taught using story completion for improving speaking skills at second grade of MA AL-MUSTOFA Mojokerto have significant different result than students who are not taught using story completion. Moreover, the mean results of both groups are different. The experimental group shows a higher result with mean score is 82.47 than the control group with mean score is 78.53. Based on the result of the study, the writer concludes that: Ho (the null hypothesis): "There is no significant difference between the students who are taught by using story completion in teaching speaking and those who are not taught by using story completion in teaching speaking at second grade of MA AL-MUSTOFA Mojokerto" is rejected because there was a significant difference between the students who are taught by using story completion in teaching speaking and those who are not taught by using story completion in teaching speaking at second grade of MA AL-MUSTOFA Mojokerto. It can be concluded that using story completion technique is effective toward the students' speaking at the second grade students' of senior high school at MA AL-MUSTOFA Mojokerto
