Teachers face many problems in teaching reading, especially in choosinng strategy. The title of the research is The Effectiveness of Using Index Card Match Strategy on teaching Reading Comprehension In recount text. In this reserach, the researcher wants to know the effectivenes of using Index card match strategy on reading comprehension in recount text. The objective of this study is to know whether Index card match strategy is effective to students reading comprehension on recount text at SMAN 7 Kediri.
This study was a quasi experimental design by applying pre-test and post- test. The population of this study is the tenth graders of SMAN 7 Kediri. The sampling process was non-randomized sampling. The researcher took X-MIPA 5 as the experimental group and X-MIPA 4 as the control group. The experimental group was taught by using Index card match strategy, while thw control group was taught by conventional teaching. The instrument used for measuring achivement was a test. The researcher administratd two kinds of test. They were pre-test and post-test on both experimental group and control group. And the score of the test were calculated by using ANCOVA throught SPSS for windows.
In this research, the result of stastical computation of ANCOVA shows that the significant at (p) 0.042 < 0.05 level. since the significant value is smaller than 0.05. Statiscally, here was enough evidence to recejt the null hypothesis, and then the alternative hypothesis is received. It means that the students' who were taught by using Index card match strategy got significantly better reading skill than the students who were taught by using conventional teaching.
