Analysis on figurative langage in Frank Sinatra`s songs on Duets II
This study aimed to find out the kinds of figurative language in Frank Sinatra's songs on Duets II and the meaning of the figurative language. Figurative language is language which employs various figure of speech. Figurative language in the song could make the readers or listeners understand that the lyrics of the song can describe messages that must be known by learning deeply in terms of categories. This study is done based on the theory of figurative language by Reaske.
This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data were obtained from 14 Frank Sinatra's songs on the album Duets II. The writer used the study document to collect the data. The writer analyzed the data based on the types of figurative language. In this study, the writer as the instrument has to validate to what extent qualitative writer are ready to engage in research that will go into the study. To check the data or in other words used to make the data valid, the writer used investigator triangulation.
From the analysis, the writer finds that figurative language that used in Frank Sinatra's songs on the album Duets II is diverse. There are 50 data that have found. 11 data of euphemism. 9 data of simile, 6 data of hyperbole, 6 data of personification, 4 data of metaphor, 4 data of repetition, 3 data of paradox, 3 data of parallelism, 2 data of irony, I data of antithesis, and I data of allusion. It can be concluded that figurative language that most used in Frank Sinatra's songs on the album Duets II is euphemism. Frank Sinatra's song lyrics tell us to always have polite in convey something with replaces the previously rude words with more polite words.
