Character building values represented in English Lesson 6 for senior high school
National Education System No. 20/2003 chapter 3 mention the function of national education to develop ability and build character in order to create an intelligible national life. So, it is very clear that the need of character building is very important to be applied in education Educational values will help the student realize, experience, and put it in integral manner to their life. Educational values covered character, values, norm, and morals. Immanuel (2012.5) states that textbook is key component in most language program. Textbook in this case become very important in language rule as instructional material
The research was conducted to analyze whether the picture and utterance in textbook "English Lesson 6" that is developed by Team Syllabus "Darussalam represent the aspect of character building values. This research is aimed at getting finding of character building values represented in English textbook for Senior High School. More specially, this research is to analyze whether picture and utterance in the English textbook that represent character building values a source of data In this research, the researcher used qualitative research method by using content analysis. The researcher describes the data roommates will answer two research question of data analysis above. The man research instrument is the researcher himself in looking and finding the data and also analyzing the data
This research finding that the book contains eighteen character building values represented in the English textbook, with details, there are fifteen character building values represented in utterance data. The representation of character building values in this textbook is the picture and utterance are not explicitly mention five skills of communicative, linguistic, socio cultural, strategies, and discourse competence Hence, the visual language structure is better to be introduced to student to build up their analytical skill. It is recommended to the next researcher with similar research to comprehend character building value is integrated in grammar framework
