An analysis on chnges of Joker's character from protagoinst to antagonist in `Joker` movie

So far, some children and adolescents have experienced moral or immoral decadency that occur inspired by the films they watch. So, what makes children or teens tend to be good or bad personalities depends on what they are watching. One of the films that inspire or motivate immorality is the Joker who recently won an Oscar charter in January 2020. The Joker movie tells about the origin of the Joker which is packed with a harsh background of life and felt by the audience. One of the many conflicts that occur is that when Arthur trusts his mother and cares deeply for his mother, he turns into an antagonist when he knows that she is lying by the evidence he is looking for. He was determined to kill his mother and create chaos in Gotham City. The purpose of this research is to find out the personality of the main character "Joker" and change the character of the protagonist into an antagonist through Saussure's Semiotics. the hope of this research is to gain more understanding of the main character's personality and to find out what the main character's personality is like.

This research is a library research. The instrument of this research is the Joker film. All data is taken through all scenes in the film supported by scripts. Including all behaviors, think of ways, feelings, efforts, actions, and pressures in the film. And this research focuses on analyzing the personality of the main character. All data were analyzed using Saussure's Semiotics theory with significant and significant elements.

The findings and discussion of the research are as follows: from Saussure's Semiotics Theory is characterization: narcissistic, caring, entertaining children, vindictive, jealous, emotional, accusing, wanting to be recognized, aloof, easy to be seduced, not funny & crazy, angry, having laughter disease, and strange. Protagonist changes to antagonist: having life problems, changing nature, causes that make changes. Then the Joker as the main character is an initially good person because he has characteristics that show that he cares about innocent people.
