An analysis on grammatical errors in performing dialogue on video at SMA Negeri 2 Pare
Mastering grammar and speaking are not easy to do for students who are learning English, because they have to face the different conditions and situations, moreover in Indonesia. The learners often do some errors both in writing and speaking. The solution is giving some new methods in teaching speaking, in order that the students will be brave to practice speaking correctly especially on the grammar. For the purpose of this research is to find out the errors that students made in performing dialogue based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Dulay (1982), then the research study is about an analysis on grammatical errors in performing dialogue on video at SMA Negeri 2 Pare. Furthermore, the result of the descriptive research is used to answer the research questions: (1) To identify the kinds of grammatical errors, (2) to describe the grammatical errors, and (3) to find the most types of grammatical errors are made by the students in using present tense by performing dialogue on video at SMA Negeri 2 Pare.
The research design that is used for this research is descriptive qualitative design by collecting and analyzing the data. The data were gathered from the students and then analyzed in order to draw a conclusion. The subjects of this research are 32 students of the eleventh grade of XI MIPA 2 at SMA Negeri 2 Pare, Kediri. This research used documentation as a tool to analyze the error by recorded, listened and transcribed their dialogues. The students performed their dialogue on video; the researcher listened, transcribed the dialogue to analyze, percentage, and classify the error based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy by Dulay (1982).
The finding showed that the result of the research, it was found the total of the students' errors were 70 items, there are 38 (54,28%) items of omission error, 7 (10%) items of addition error, 20 (28,57%) items of misformation error, and 5 (7.14%) items of misordering error. The conclusion showed that the highest errors were omission 38 (54,28%). In line with the statement in the table of identification of students' error in omission, there were found that almost aspects of errors made by the students. The lowest errors were misodering 5 (7,14%), the possible reason was the students still made misordering errors because the students might be influenced by Indonesian structures where the students placed the morpheme based on the order of Indonesian structure.
