The effectiveness of using picture word inductive model in teaching writing for the eight grade stdudents at MTsN 5 Kediri
Writing is important for English learners to transfer information and ideas. Writing is a physiological activity of the language user to put information in the written text. The role of the teachers is very important in helping the students. Even though teachers need to implement intriguing strategies to enhance students during the lesson, there is also a non-technical aspect that probably influences students skill in writing. One of the models strategy that can be used is picture word inductive model (PWIM). PWIM is originally designed by Calhoun (1999). The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using PWIM strategy in teaching writing for students at MTSN 5 Kediri
This research used quasi-experimental design with three treatment meetings held, 2 x 40 minutes for each class. This design used pre-test and post-test to determine students' writing skill before treatment and after treatment. The strategy of control group used Mind Mapping. The population of this research is students of eighth class at MTsN 5 Kediri. The sample is students of VIII/G and VIII/H at MTSN 5 Kediri consisting of 41 and 42 students and the instrument is test. The data were analysed by ANCOVA using SPSS 21 program.
From the result of assumption by ANCOVA, there was indication that (1) the distribution of the data is normal; (2) the variance between experimental and control group is homogeneous; (3) there is no interaction between pre-test and post test group; and (4) the relationship between pre-test and post-test is linear. The end of assumption of ANCOVA showed that significant value is 0.001 smaller than 0.05 (0.001< 0.05) it means that there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis (HO) and accept the alternative hypothesis (Ha). From the result of research, there has been different mean between students from experimental group who were taught using Picture Word Inductive Model strategies and also students from control group who were taught using Mind Mapping strategies as a teaching strategy. Based on the explanation, it can be concluded that Picture Word Inductive Model strategy is effective in teaching writing for the eighth grade students at MTSN 5 Kediri.
