Attitude and Motivation in Learning English at the 11th Grade of SMAN 1 Plosoklaten Kediri
The purpose of this study is to investigate the attitudes and motivation
of eleventh grade undergraduates toward English language learning as a
foreign language. The study was carried out with 34 students majoring in social
science at the Senior High School Plosoklaten Kediri.
This research used descriptive quantitative research as a methodand
questionnaires to collect the data. A self-report questionnaire was adapted from
Gardner’s Attitude and Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) and translated into
Indonesian, the participant first language.Attitude included three components:
cognitive, affective and behavioural.While there were two Psychological
motivations which hadtwo fundamental subcategories: intrinsic and extrinsic
motivation.
The finding revealed thattwo content attitudes had high level of
agreement that are students cognitive attitudethat have high mean score 4.41
and the standard deviation .771 andbehavior attitude mean scorewas 4.49 and
standard deviation .557, whereas affective attitude is in the medium level of
agreement with mean score 2,94 and standard deviation .886. While intrinsic
motivation had high mean score 441 and standard deviation .857 and extrinsic
motivation had high mean score 3.94 and standard deviation 886 means that
they are in the high level of agreement.
