The Effectiveness of Brainstorming Technique to Teach Writing Hortatory Exposition Text to The Second Grade Students of SMAN 1 Kota Kediri
The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of brainstorming technique to teach writing hortatory exposition text to the second grade students of SMAN 1 Kota Kediri.
The method used in this research was a quantitative method and the research design was a quasi-experiment. The population of this study is the second grade students of SMAN 1 Kota Kediri in academic year 2017-2018. It consists of 385 students who are divided into eleven classes. Each class consists of about 22 students. In this research, the researcher takes two classes which consist of students in same ability in writing. The researcher takes two classes from the population. The researcher chooses sample based on information from the teacher that XI LM BIG 1 and XI LM BIG 7 have the equal ability in writing. Therefore, the researcher takes XI LM BIG 7 class as experimental group and XI LM BIG 1 class as the control group. The XI LM BIG 7 class is taught by using brainstorming technique and XI LM BIG 1 class is taught without using brainstorming technique.
The result of this study showed that the distribution of the data in the research is normal. It can be proven by the result Kolmogorov-Smirnov test showed that the significant value (p) > alpha (α), with p (0.200) > α (0.05). Meanwhile, the Levene’s test showed that F (1.42) = 3.195, p = 0.081. The result gave evidence that p (0.081) > α (0.05). It means that the variance of the experimental and control group is equal across groups. Then, the homogeneity of regression test (slope) showed that there was no interaction between the covariate and the independent variable. It was proven by the result of p > α, with p(0.156)>α (0.05). The last assumption is there was relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable. It can be proven by the result of testing was F (1.41) = 60.875, with p (0.001) < α (0.05). It means that there is a relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable.
While, the result of the output ANCOVA showed the significant value was p(0.004)
