THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING SCAFFOLDING STRATEGY IN TEACHING WRITING RECOUNT TEXT TO THE STUDENTS OF MAN 4 KEDIRI
Writing is one of language skills that must be mastered by students. The students are expected to be able to express their ideas, opinions, feelings, and emotion well in writing text. It is important to the students to master English orally and in writing, in order to be able to communicate and socialize with the community. Writing is one of the language skill that will never be left in education. Moreover, most of the teacher does not have good strategy to teach writing. Scaffolding strategy is tutoring or other assistance provided in a learning setting to assist students with attaining levels of understanding impossible for them to achive without assistance.
The study is aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using scaffolding strategy in teaching writing recount text. The researcher used quasi- experimental design as the research design. This study is qualitative research, because the researcher used some numerical data which is analyzed statistically. This research was conducted for the tenth grade students of MAN 4 Kediri, Kediri in academic year of 2017/2018 as the subject. The researcher, took 66 students as a sample which taken from two classes, X-MIA 3 class of Experimental group which consist of 33 students and X-IIS 3 class of control group which consist of 33 students. The researcher used test as instrument of this research. Those test are pre-test and post-test. Then, the researcher collected data was analyzed by using ANCOVA in SPSS 16.0 Version of Windows.
The result of analysis showed that the assumption of normality is normal. The distribution of dependent variable showed that p (0,626) > ɑ (0.05). Then, the homogeinety variance both of group was equal. It showed that p (0.492) > ɑ (0.05). Then, there is relationship between pre-test and post-test, it showed p = (0.000) < ɑ (0.05). It means that there was relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable. The result of test of between-subject effect, it showed that the significant is 0.045 that is lower than 0.05. From the result we have enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis. So, it can be concluded that the using Scaffolding strategy is better than the Think-Pair-Square.
