EVALUATION OF ENGLISH TEXT BOOK 2013 CURRICULUM OF EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP AR – RAHMAN KEDIRI
Book is the one of the most important components in learning process of all
education and non education. Beside that, the curriculum also be a compass of the
learning process. Choosing a text book which used to teach, it must be based on
curriculum and other quality to be a great textbook for students and also for
teachers. The 2013 curriculum text book is still make some parents of the students
confused and make them to search or buy a book again to give an explain to their
children when they have a problem in the house. The content of student text books
just there an exercise to the students and the teachers do not too explain more to
their students. From this problem the researcher would like to know is the English
text book 2013 curriculum appropriate for the students need in eight grade
students of SMP AR-RAHMAN KEDIRI.
This research is conducted by using qualitative research. The researcher used
to content analysis. The object of this study is a student English textbook and
teacher English textbook which their used in the SMP ARRAHMAN, especially
for English textbook of eight grade students of SMP ARRAHMAN KEDIRI. The
content are derived all of the contents including all of core competence and basic
competence, and appropriate with the standard of the contents, has attractive
presentation, formal language, using appropriate and interesting illustration, and
appropriate with students needed. To collect the data the researcher gives a
questioner to the three English teachers. By using this technique, a researcher
wants to analyze the content of the text book which is appropriate with the
students’ need or not.
Generally, from the data for appropriate this 2013 curriculum English
textbook for eight grade students is about 2, 81 it is the average of total point from
5 point of view in this analysis. the less point are using appropriate are interesting
illustration still make students feel lazy to open their book and also has to
exploring again about the matter, and need more explanation to their teacher. The
teacher still needs more resources, have more strategy to make students being
active in the class and be enthusiastic to studying English, also to improve their
students known. Based on this data the conclusion are “The use of English text
book 2013 curriculum is appropriate with the students’ need at a good level”.
