The Effectiveness of Using PARTS Strategy in Teaching Reading to The Eleventh Graders of MA Ma’arif Udanawu Blitar.
Teachers face many problems in teaching reading, especially in choosing strategy. The title of this research is The Effectiveness of Using PARTS Strategy in Teaching Reading to The Eleventh Graders of MA Ma’arif Udanawu Blitar. In this research, the researcher wants to know the effectiveness of using PARTS as one of strategies in teaching reading comprehension. The objective of this study is to know whether PARTS is effective in teaching reading comprehension at MA Ma’arif Udanawu Blitar.
The study was a quasi experimental design by applying pre-test and post-test. The population of this study is the eleventh graders of MA Ma’arif Udanawu Blitar in academic year 2017/2018. The sampling process was non-randomized sampling. The researcher took XI MIA4 as the control group and XI MIA5 as the experimental group. The experimental group was taught by using PARTS strategy, while the control group was taught by conventional teaching. The instrument used for measuring achievement was a test. The researcher administrated two kinds of test. They were pre-test and post-test on both experimental and control group. And the score of the test were calculated by using ANCOVA through SPSS for windows.
The result of the statistical computation of ANCOVA reveals that experiment group significance at (p) 0.000< 0.05 level. Since the significant value was smaller than 0.05, statistically there was enough evidence to accept Ha, then H0 was rejected. It means that the students who were taught by using PARTS has significantly has better reading skill on hortatory exposition text than student who taught by using conventional teaching. The researcher would like to suggest the teacher to use this strategy as an alternative in improving students’ reading skill on hortatory exposition text.
