The Contribution of Part-Time Employment toward Academic Achievement of English Department Students of IAIN Kediri.
Working during university studies is a widespread phenomenon in the world. Most countries in the world experience an increase in student employment, included Indonesia. It has been reported on this issue when it comes to university students in developing countries like Indonesia. Presently, 55% to 80% of some to believe that students who work suffer from decreased academic performance. The objective of this study is to know the contribution of part-time employment toward academic achievement of English department students of IAIN Kediri.
In this research, the researcher used quantitative Research. The sample of this research are all employment students in English department students of IAIN Kediri 2014/2015 (53 students) whereas the sample collection method is purposive sampling method. In collecting data, the researcher used questionnaire and English proficiency test as the instruments. The analysis used in this research is multiple regression analysis.
The result of the research with significance 5% shows that: (1) part-time employment (work’s time and kind of work) has negative contribution and significant to students’ achievement with f count 10.884 and significant value 0.000. Coefficient determinant R² (0.303) means that 30% of students’ achievement influenced by part-time employment (work’s time and kinds of employment). Whereas 70% influenced by other variables outside this research. The effective contribution of variable time is 17% and variable kinds of work is 13%. (2) work’s time in a week has negative contribution and significant to the students’ academic achievement with t count -3.030 and significant value 0.004. (3) kinds of work have negative contribution and significant to the students’ academic achievement with t count -2.579 and significant value (0.013).
Based on the result of the research, the researcher concludes that part-time employment (time and kinds of employment) can give negative contribution to students’ academic achievement (30%).
