The Effectiveness of Reciprocal Technique Compared To Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) in Teaching Reading to Second Grade Students of MTsN 3 Kota Kediri.
The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of Reciprocal Technique compared to Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) in teaching reading to second grade students of MTsN 3 Kota Kediri.
The method used in this research was a quantitative method and the research design was a quasi-experiment. The population of this study is the second grade students of MTsN 3 Kota Kediri in academic year 2017-2018. In this research, the researcher took two classes which have similarly ability in reading. Therefore, the researcher takes VIII D class as the experimental group (using Reciprocal Technique) and VIII E class as the control group (using Students Team Achievement Division (STAD)).
The result of this study showed that the distribution of the data in the research is normal. It can be proven by the result of Kolmogorov-Smirnov test that showed the significant value (p) > alpha (α), with p (0.872) > α (0.05) in the experimental group and p (0.284) > α (0.05) in the control group. Meanwhile, the Levene’s test showed that F (1, 93) = 0.058, p = 0.810p (0.810) > α (0.05). It means that the variance of the experimental and control group is equal across groups. Then, the homogeneity of regression test (slope) showed that the result of p > α, with p (0.018) > α (0.05). It means that there was interaction between the covariate and the independent variable, it can be conclude that the covariate was there interaction to the independent variable then assumption is not met. So, the F-test was conducted, result of the F-test is p (0.070) > α (0.05). It means that F-test is not significant. The last assumption is there was relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable. It can be proven by the result of testing was F (17.891) = 845.452, with p (0.000) < α (0.05). It means that there is a relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable.
Based on the hypothesis testing result, the significant value was p (0.002) < α (0.05), there was enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis, than the alternative hypothesis was received. Therefore, there is significant difference between two means of students’ score in experimental group is 85.74 and in control group is 80.50. It means that the students who was taught by using Reciprocal Technique is more effective to teaching reading than student who were taught by using Student Teams Achivement Division (STAD).
