The Use of Project Based Learning to Improve Writing Skill on Descriptive Text of Seven Grade Students of MTsN 5 Nganjuk.
Writing is one of tools to communicate each other. It is a language skill that should be learned by almost people to deliver thought or to express feeling through written form. Writing is language skill that should be learned by the students of MTsN 5 Nganjuk. Based on syllabus, seven grade students are required to learn descriptive text. In fact, most of the students have problem related to writing skill. They could not have a glance of idea if their teacher may offer them to describe a thing, people, place and so on. The objective of this study is to improve writing skill on descriptive text of seven grade students of MTsN 5 Nganjuk by using Project Based Learning.
In this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research. This action research is conducted in one cycles consist of six meetings. The procedure of the research consisted of preliminary study, planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. In collecting data, the researcher used observation checklist, field note, writing test and scoring rubric as the instruments. The procedure used in implementing Project Based Learning into writing consists of observing, associating, discussing, drafting, revising, and publishing.
The result of the research shows that Project Based Learning could improve students’ writing skill on descriptive text. The students’ interest in writing improved after the implementation of Project Based Learning by interpreter of the percentage of students’ achievement in writing a descriptive text. The percentage of the students who get score ≥70 92% (35 students) with the students’ average score was 83.
Based on the result of the study, the researcher concludes that students’ writing skill on descriptive text can be improved through Project Based Learning. Therefore, it is recommended that the teacher should apply Project Based Learning in teaching writing.
