The effetifveness off using story reenactment in teaching reading narrative text at first grade students of man prambon
Reading is one of the language skills that should be mastered by students besides the others. Teaching reading is the activity in classroom that usually makes students bored. Reading is the activity that spents much time especially in reading foreign language as English. The main problems which are faced by the students in reading are they are difficult to find out the main idea, and they are confused to understand the meaning for difficult vocabulary, because it is unfamiliar for them. Actually, there are many teaching methods in teaching reading. Story Reenactment is designed to overcome student’s difficulties in learning. It is hoped can help students in understanding a text better by reenacted what they have been read. This research was conducted for the first grade students of MAN Prambon Nganjuk in the academic year of 2016/2017. The study is aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using story reenactment in teaching reading narrative text. The researcher used Quasi-experimental design for the research design. This study is included in quantitative research, because the researcher used some numerical data which is analyzed statistically. The subject of this research is the first grade students of MAN Prambon Nganjuk. In this research, the researcher took 60 students as a sample which were taken from two classes (X-IPA1 and X-IPA2), X-IPA1 class as an experimental group which consists of 30 students, and X-IPA2 class as a control group which consists of 30 students. The researcher used test as instrument of this research. Those test are pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was given before treatment and post-test was given after the treatment. The collected data was analyzed by using ANCOVA in SPSS application. The results of the data analysis showed that the mean score of experimental group in pre-test was 67.17, and 75.00 as the mean score of its posttest. Based on those mean scores, it can be seen that there is a significant difference after the students were taught by using Story Reenactment. Besides, the result calculation of ANCOVA on the table Parameter Estimates also shows that the significant is lower than the alpha (0.00 < 0.05) means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Therefore, this statement proves that there is a significant difference between students who are treated using story reenactment and collaborative strategic reading. The average score of experimental group was higher than control group. Hence, it can be concluded that using story reenactment in teaching reading narrative text at first grade students in MAN Prambon is effective.
