Motivation of english department students of STAIN Kediri in inglish language learning

Motivation is combination of desire and effort made to achieve a goal. Motivation is one of the influential factors in learning. The success of learning depends on high or low motivation of students. By having motivation students will be enthusiastic in teaching learning process so they will be pushed to study English well. When the students are lack of motivation in learning English, they feel not enjoy studying so they will show poor attitude when teaching and learning process. As the result they will not achieve their study well. The formulation of the research problems are: 1). What is the intrinsic motivation level of English department students at STAIN Kediri? 2). What is the extrinsic motivation level of English department students at STAIN Kediri?. The purpose of this research are: 1). To know the intrinsic motivation level of English department students at STAIN Kediri. 2). To know the extrinsic motivation level of English department students at STAIN Kediri. Research method: 1) The research design in this research is survey research with quantitative approach, 2) The population of this research is the students in the second, fourth dan sixth semester of STAIN Kediri. 3) The sample 55 students is taken from the second and fourth semester, 45 students is taken from the sixth semester, and the total samples are 155 students, 4) The research instrument is questionnaire, 5) The data analysis is using SPSS Program. The result of this research showed from the students’ answer in the questionnaire. There are 40 questions in the questionnaire. Question number one until number twenty are questions about intrinsic motivation and question number twenty one until number forty are questions for extrinsic motivation. The calculation showed that the mean of the students’ intrinsic motivation is 2,99 or moderate level of motivation and the mean of the students’ extrinsic motivation is 2,87 or moderate level of motivation. It means that the English department students in STAIN Kediri have higher intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation.
