The Correlation Between Motivation and Anxiety among EFL Students in MTs Sunan Ampel Siman Kepung Kediri
This study focusses on the correlation between motivation and anxiety among EFL students in MTs Sunan Ampel Siman Kepung Kediri. There are two types of motivation; integrative and instrumental motivation. There are four types of anxiety; communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation, fear of test and fear of English class. There are 74 participants or EFL student from MTs Sunan Ampel. They are from the first until the third grade who got English class one a week in about 60 minutes every meeting. They answered 10 items questionnare of motivation, and 20 items questionnaire of anxiety. All the questionnaire was given in Indonesian. In term of motivation, both of integrative and instrumental are categorized in high level of motivation based on the mean score 13. There are 60% participants are classified in medium level of integrative motivation, and 53% participants are classified in medium level instrumental motivation. By sum of integrative and instrumental motivation, the most dominant motivation among the EFL students is integrative motivation. In term of anxiety, the most dominant anxiety is communication apprehension with the mean score 15.00. There are 56% of participants got score in the level of medium. Then, by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation ver.24 for windows, it can be seen that there is a low correlation between motivation anxiety with the r score ,24 in the significance ,035. This research is positively correlated because the r score is ,24. It means that there is a linier relation between the variables where both of them are in the level of medium.
