The correlation between the habit in watcing movie and vocabulary mastery of english departement students of STAIN Kediri
English Department students prefer watching English movie to watch Indonesian movie. Besides, students still have difficulties in remembering new vocabulary and are confused to understand the sentences in the movie. Vocabulary is important thing in students learning process. So, some students improve their ability by themselves through media. Then, the researcher correlates that habit and vocabulary mastery of the students. This research is conducted to know the students’ vocabulary mastery, how often the habit in watching English movie, and whether there is any correlation between the habit in watching English movie and vocabulary mastery of English Department students’. The research design of this study is descriptive quantitative research. The instruments of this study are questionnaire and test. The researcher is calculating and processing or analyzing the data using IBM SPSS software ver.21.00 for Windows. The researcher found the data distribution is abnormal, so the researcher uses Kendall’s tau to know whether there is correlation between those two variables. The result of frequency of students’ habit in watching English movie of English Department students’ is average. Then, the students’ vocabulary mastery is low category. And the correlation shows that the Sig (0. 072) ≥ (0. 05). This means that there is no correlation between two variables, the habit in watching English movie and vocabulary mastery of English Department Students’ of STAIN Kediri. It also means that students’ habit in watching English movie is not related to their vocabulary mastery.
