The Effectiveness Of Using Picture Series To Teach Writing In Narrative Text At The Eleventh Grade Of SMAN 1 Plosoklaten
The purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of picture series in teaching writing is effective or not. The researcher used picture series as a media in improving students’ writing skill. The population of this research is the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Plosoklaten. The sample of this research is two classes which are divided into control group (XI IPA 3, 23 students) and experimental group (XI IPA 1, 23 students).
This study employed a quasi experimental research. The instrument that is used in collecting data is a test. The result data is computed from student writing. And then the researcher calculated the test using ANCOVA to know whether there was significant difference between the experimental group and control group.
The analysis result shows that both groups have different mean score after treatment. From the calculation, in the pre-test the mean score of experimental group was 56,8696 and the mean score of control group is 57,0435. In post-test, the mean score of experimental group was 70,4348 and the mean score of control group is 62,8261. It shows that experimental group has higher mean score than control group. So, it is conclude that using picture series is effective in teaching writing narrative text.
The result of statistical computation of ANCOVA revels that the significance was 0,000. It means that the students who were taught by using picture series had significantly better writing skill than those who were not taught by using picture series. It means that picture series is effective in teaching writing narrative text at the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Plosoklaten in academic year of 2015/2016.
