They sometimes insert some quotations or narative to complete or support their works. The researcher found that case of Grammatical Cohesion in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child novel. This research was conducted to answer the third research problems; (1) What is grammatical cohesion found in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child?. (2) What is the most dominant grammatical cohesion in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child?. (3) What are the possible reasons of the dominant grammatical cohesion in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child?. Those research problems had purposes to find out the analysis of Grammatical Cohesion in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child, to find the most dominant grammatical cohesion in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child and to explain the possible reasons of the dominant grammatical cohesion in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child.
A descriptive qualitative method was used because the data are in the form of words which are explained descriptively and briefly by using Hallyday and Hassan theory of grammatical cohesion. The data takes from quotation and narrative in that novel. From the analysis, researcher found 14 data of substitutions, 13 data of ellipses, 30 data of references, and 83 data of conjunctions. So the most dominant grammatical cohesion in Torey’s The Tiger’s Child is conjunction. And the possible reasons of dominant grammatical cohesion are correlation between the function of conjunction in grammatical cohesion and reality life of novel.
Finally, it is suggested that this research will be one of additional references in the filed of Cohesion. In addition, the next future researchers can study Grammatical Cohesion more complete by using different subject and theory.
