Grammatical interference of indonesian language to the english writing of efl learners at sman 1 mojo / Emi Mustika S.

This is a research which discusses grammatical interference. It is one of bilingualism-multilingualism aspects that occurs on the level of structure and cultural sense, whether oral or written, especially when somebody is learning foreign language. In this case are Senior High School students who are asked to construct English writing. It is chosen because English is one of foreign languages for thembut it becomes one of graduation requirements. In the fact, they still face any difficulties and interference in learning English especially in writing skill.
The method of the research is a qualitative research using a descriptive-comparative analytic method. The aim of this research is to know the types of grammatical interference and try to explain the influence of Indonesian grammar that has interfered English sentence.
As result of the research, it is concluded that many sentences which have been written by the students are not grammatically correct. In other words, their sentences are interfered by their mother tongue or their source language, namely Indonesian language. The interference are caused by the structural factors, such as interference in using agreement and interference in the syntactic patterns. Based on the result of this study, it has found that there are two types of grammatical interference in the students’ construction. They are interference related to function or meaning of grammatical forms and interference on particular word order. Those types of interferences are analyzed on the morphological and syntactical interference forms. On morphological there are two parts which have more interference forms, those are subject-verb agreement and singular-plural agreement. Then, on syntactical interference it has been found that there is one part which has more interference form that is misplaced word
