The implementation of using lalaran to improve the english vocabulary mastery of the first grades of smp daraul falah talun blitar / Hanik Masrohatin

Vocabulary is an important part in learning English language. Understanding vocabulary means learning vocabulary, then learning vocabulary may be done through memorize it well. It has important role in developing English language skills. The English teacher has to be creative to help the students memorizing the English vocabulary based on the English material in each semester and so on. In this case, the researcher took initiative to implement of Lalaran method as a traditional method of Islamic boarding school to teach vocabulary in formal setting. This method was implemented to the first grade students of SMP Darul Falah Talun Blitar, in academic year 2013/2014, with 19 students participant. This study is classroom action research with a collaborative design. The procedure of the research of the classroom action research consists of four steps they are: planning, implementation, observation and reflection through cycles. Each cycle consist of three meetings. During the implementation, the teacher acted as the teacher and the observer helped by the English teacher acted as the collaborator to teach the students and observe the action. Before and after doing the action of lalaran method the researcher will give two kind of test, they are preliminary test, test in cycle I and test in cycle II. The research design that is used in this study is classroom action research (CAR). The classroom action research implements Lalaran method. In collecting the data, the researcher uses test, observation, and interview. For the data analysis, the researcher uses criteria of success as follows; 1) 75% of students get score ≥ 75. The average score is 80. The result of analysis, the researcher knows that the students’ achievement in learning English getting improvement from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I, the students get score 75 is 63,15% with average 76,84. And in the cycle II is 78,94% with average 84,21. Based on the result of analysis, the researcher concludes that lalaran method can improve students’ vocabulary of first grades of SMP Darul Falah Talun Blitar very good. The technique can give positive effect to the students’ motivation in learning English especially vocabulary.
