The use of six-step interview to improve the speaking skill of the students of ma hasanuddin jombangan tertek pare kediri / Nur Syifa Fauziyah

Based on the preliminary study, the researcher found some problems related to English instruction activities especially in speaking English, first; the students were not confident to speak English. Second; there was no specific method to teach speaking. Third; teaching speaking in classroom was rarely given to the students. Fourth; the students were difficult to understand what other speakers are saying. Fifth; The students do not like with English lesson.
The design of this study is classroom action research. The population of this study was the first grade of the students of MA Hasanuddin Jombangan Tertek Pare Kediri that consisted of 18 students. In order to achieve the objective of this study, the researcher designed criteria of success to know the implementation of Six-Step Interview strategy to improve the students’ speaking ability that was 70% students got score equal or greater than 75.
Based on the result of this study on cycle 1, the mean score of the students’ involvement was 59%, the average score of speaking test was 67.5, and there were 50% students who get score above the minimum passing the criteria. So it is known from the result of cycle 1 that the criterion of success was not achieved yet. Whereas, the result of this study in the cycle 2 the average score of students’ involvement is 76%, the average score of the students’ test is 74.4 and 72% students got the success above the minimum criterion. This means that in cycle 2 the criterion of success is achieved, so the research has to be stopped.
