The title of this research is “The Effectiveness of Using Dictogloss Technique in Improving Students’ Writing Ability in Narrative Text at Eleventh Class of MAN Prambon-Nganjuk”. The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using dictogloss technique in improving students’ writing ability in narrative text at eleventh class of MAN Prambon-Nganjuk.
To achieve the purpose of this study, the writer’s design is a quasi-experimental research. The subject of this research is the students at eleventh class of MAN Prambon in the academic year 2013-2014 that consists of 46 students. The subjects are divided into two classes, XI IPA-1 class as the experimental group and XI IPA-2 class as the control group that will be taught without dictogloss technique. To collect the data, the writer used the pretest and posttest at the experimental and the control group. The result of the tests was analyzed by ANCOVA through SPSS.
Based on the data analysis, the result of statistical computation of ANCOVA reveals that at the significance 0.05 statistically. There was enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis, and the alternative hypothesis was received. It means that the students who were taught by using dictogloss have higher achievement than students who were taught without dictogloss technique. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis “students who are taught by using dictogloss will get better achievement in writing narrative text than students who are not taught by using dictogloss” is accepted. Based on the result of the test, the researcher concluded that using dictogloss is effective in improving students’ writing ability. The researcher suggests the teacher of Senior High School to use this method as an alternative in improving students’ writing ability.
