Perception on character building in elt of senior high school english teachers in kediri municipality / Nina In Kholida

There have been many changes in Indonesian curricula since its independence in 1945. The newly introduced curriculum is called 2013 curriculum with Character Education included explicitly. The effort of implementing Character Building in English 2013 Curriculum does not mean that it is free from controversy. Education system is one of fields that need to conform to the era development. This study aimed to find the perception of Character Building in ELT of Senior High School English teachers in Kediri Municipality, the (anticipated) problem within the implementation of Character Building in ELT, and also their (anticipated) efforts in implementing Character Building in ELT.
The writer indicates this study as qualitative study. The goal of this study is to investigate the perception of Character Building in ELT of Senior High School English teachers in Kediri Municipality from their point of view. The focus is on the meaning, problem, and effort of Character Building in ELT as expressed by Senior High School English teachers in Kediri Municipality. The writer also indicates this study characterizes as phenomenal study. The subject of this study is Senior High School English teachers’ perception in Kediri Municipality, and Senior High School English teachers in Kediri Municipality as the data sources.
In essentials, the writer finds that the Senior High School English teachers in Kediri Municipality who implementing English 2013 Curriculum doesn’t agree with the idea of Character Building in ELT, even they have low problem in implementing Character Building in ELT with 60% of English teachers who implementing English 2013 Curriculum has high effort, means they will keep build their students’ character, even though they are not dictated by English 2013 Curriculum. On the other hand, the writer concludes that 65% of twenty respondents of Senior High School English teachers in Kediri Regency who implementing other than English 2013 Curriculum have negative perception, while 75% of them have a high effort in implementing Character Building in ELT, with 60% of them have a low problem, means that even they are not implementing English 2013 Curriculum, but they have high effort to apply it based on Character Education in ELT. And even though they have to implementing English 2013 Curriculum, they also face low problem in it.
