Each student has different characteristics, ability, interest and talent. Therefore educators need to understand their students’ condition and capability. Teachers cannot put their expectation in the same level because each teaching learning process will have different response from the students according to their condition. Some students give good response as what the teacher hopes, but some others are not. What motivates one student probably does not motivate another. What mastered by one student probably cannot be understood well by another. What discourage one student might encourage another.
In order the students have the same or average achievement or ability, teachers at SMAN 1 Kediri establish a program namely Klinik Mata Pelajaran as the attempt to overcome students’ difficulties in studying. This program intends to give additional course to the students who find difficulties in learning so that they can immediately get the solution for their problems. Through this program, teachers hope that students who find difficulties in learning process can make up the fact of having fallen behind.
In this study the researcher chooses Descriptive Qualitative as the research design due to the purpose of this study. The researcher wants to know about Klinik Mata Pelajaran as the attempt to overcome students’ difficulties in learning process. The researcher wants to know students’ obstacles in learning English, teachers of Klinik Mata Pelajaran’s strategies to overcome students’ difficulties in learning, and students’ response to the Klinik Mata Pelajaran program.
Based on the study, most of the students find difficulties in grammar and understanding English literature. But through Klinik Mata Pelajaran some of those problems are gradually solved. Klinik Mata Pelajaran gives students’ opportunities to consult their entire problem in learning process. Teachers also give enjoyable environment to study in order to make the learning atmosphere more comfortable. Students feel much helped by Klinik Mata Pelajaran but in the process of the program, the program of Klinik Mata Pelajaran does not run as smoothly as what students hope. The application of Klinik Mata Pelajaran is not maximal. In this case the teachers are still trying to arrange and develop Klinik Mata Pelajaran into better concept of additional course to fulfill students’ need
