Perceptions of students toward poster presentation in speaking classroom
The research discusses the students' perceptions toward poster presentation in speaking classroom. Learning English is important for everyone. In Indonesia English is a compulsory lesson. English lesson is expected to help the students to be able to communicate with each other. In the speaking classroom, students learn to train their speaking skills. In the classroom, the teachers apply some of teaching media. One of the teaching media used in the speaking classroom is poster presentation.
This research was conducted to analyze the perceptions of students on the use of poster presentation in practicing speaking. Students' perception important because by knowing the students' perceptions, the perception can determine how the teaching and learning should be applied. If the students had good perceptions on poster presentation, it meant that poster presentation could be used as one of teaching media in speaking classroom. Furthermore, the result of the survey was used to answer research questions; (1) To know the perception of students on the use of poster presentation in speaking classroom, (2) To know that poster presentation varies the perception regard to male and female perceptions of students. To get the data, the questionnaires were given to the sixth semester students of IAIN Kediri in the academic year 2019/2020. There were thirty-five participants which consists of nineteen females and sixteen males.
The result showed that 89% of the students have positive response especially for female students. They thought that poster presentation trains their speaking skill. 80% students agreed that poster presentation improved their presentation skills and graphical representation of data. They are able overcome their difficulties in speaking English because they can practice in group or team and they learn before they do poster presentation. Ranging 81%-84% students agreed with the statement "I feel confident to speak after did the presentation". The students gave good responses of perception after they did poster presentation as the media to practice speaking skill. Then, the teaching media could be accepted well and it could give better teaching and learning. Therefore, poster presentation is alternative to boost speaking skill.
