Problems in Translating English Compound Words into Bahasa Indonesia Faced by the Sixth-Semester Students of English Department of Stain Kediri

The translation of compound words is an important problem related to the construction of translation dictionaries. This study is aimed to find out the students’ problems in translating English compound word into Bahasa Indonesia and the efforts made to overcome them.
This study is a descriptive quantitative in nature. The subjects are the English students of sixth Semester STAIN KEDIRI it took 100 students. The data were collected through test, questionnaires, interview. The writer gave instruments. The first is test to know the problems in translating English compound words, and the second is qestionnare to know the student’s effort to overcome the problem and to support the data the research also use interview to the students then, the data will be the analyze.
The result of the research shows that the students’ problem in translating English compound words into Bahasa Indonesia faced by six-semester students of English Department mostly because students only can identify one word of the compound word and represent the meaning of the word and some of students cannot identify any of the compound words and cannot represent the meaning of the words when they found English compound words based on the result from the table. It happens because of their knowledge about how to translate English language is still low. They need to study more and looking for the reference. That problems also because some of students didn’t understand about the text. the efforts that the students made to overcome the problems in translating English compound words. Students discuss the problems with their lecturer and friends when they got problem in translating English compound words and students usually check to the dictionary to overcome the problems in translating English compound words.
