Personal delxis analysis of political news on “The Jakarta Post”

Language is used for communicating with others in the world. It is needed to understand the contexts and speaker’s purpose or feeling. Pragmatics is the study of relationship between language and context, based on the situation, while deixis is the relationship between language and context reflected in the structure of language itself or in the other meaning is the main of the contents of the conversation. One aspect of language studies of pragmatics is deixis. Therefore, this research is aimed to know the types of personal deixis and kind of references that are used by the personal deixis of political news on “Jakarta Post”.
In this research, the writer uses a descriptive analysis as research design to analyze the types of personal deixis and kinds of references of political news on “Jakarta Post”. Then the researcher gets references from classifying types of personal deixis.
The result of this research is there are three types of personal deixis including first person, second person and third person. The researcher found 219 words of personal deixis appears of political news on “Jakarta Post”. They are first person 18,7% (41 items), second person 1,8% (4 items), and third person 79,4% (174 items). Meanwhile, the kind of personal deixis include anaphora 82,1% (180 items), cataphora 12,3% (27 items) and exophora 5,4% (12 items).
Beside of the result of the researcher, the researcher suggests the readers to give more attention to use reference, especially on references that are used in personal deixis.
