The effectiveness of mime game in teaching speaking skill to students of Queen Al-Falah Islamic Boarding School
Language learning is hard work. Effort is required at every moment and must be maintained over a long period of time. To reach the success in teaching and learning process, teacher need teaching strategies to solve the problems it is an alternative strategy to teach speaking, this research proposed Mime Game to teach speaking. The main purpose of this study is to know whether the students who are taught with Mime Game have better achievement than the students who are taught with conventional method. In order to achieve the objective of this research, the researcher designs an experimental research.
The subject of the research is the students at the eighth grade of Queen Al-Falah, class VIII L and VIII O. The research design is quasi-experimental design. It is done by comparing two groups, experimental group and control group. Every group consists of 20 students. The experimental group is conducted at class VIII O that is taught by using Mime Game and control group is conducted at class VIII L that is taught by using conventional method. The instruments used in this research are test (pre-test and post-test), and scoring guide. Then, the result of the test was calculated by using ANCOVA.
Based on the result of data analysis administered in experimental and control group, in the pre-test the mean score of experimental group is 58.00 while the mean score of control group is 61.00. In the post-test, the mean score of experimental group is 78.00 while the mean score of control group is 70.00. Then, in the result of ANCOVA assumptions show that the distribution is normal that is p (0.212) > α (0.05) for pre-test and p (519) > α (0.05). Then, the homogeneity variance of both groups are equal that is p (0.449) > α (0.05). There is no interaction between covariate and independent, as evidenced by p (0.765) > α (0.05). Then, there is a relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable, p (0.006) < α (0.05). The result of stsatistical computation of ANCOVA revals that the result is significant .000 < .05. since the significant value is lower than .05 statically there is enough evidence to reject null hypothesis, and the alternative hypothesis is received. It means that teaching speaking skill by using Mime Game is effective.
