The ability of listening become very important especially in language learning because it provides input for learners and also in the development language knowledge. To facilitate students of junior high school to gain the maximum competence, English teacher must employ various techniques to reach the goal. Based on the preliminary study on April 2017, the second grade of SMPN 1 Semen Kediri have big problem in listening skill. That is students did not get optimal listening section. Their score in listening is very low. There are no facilities that can be used to improve the students’ listening ability like language laboratory, sound system, and so on. The teacher only used traditional method in teaching listening. The method is only text book based learning. Beside of those problems, the writer wants to conduct dictogloss technique as a communicative technique to improve the students’ listening ability at the second grade of SMPN 1 Semen Kediri even without any facilities for listening. Classroom Action Research (CAR) is the research design of this study. CAR consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research was conducted on two cycles were each cycle consist of two meetings. This study was implemented on SMPN 1 Semen Kediri. The subjects of the study is the second grade students. After analyzing the result of the students’ listening test, it can be seen that the implementation of dictogloss technique can improve the students’ listening ability. The improvement of the students’ listening ability appears from the percentages of the students’ involvement in the process of teaching listening. It was 41% in cycle 1 and it increased to 86% in cycle 2. The percentages of the students that can improve their listening ability also increased from only 59% in cycle 1 to 83,8% in cycle 2. In this case, the teaching of listening using dictogloss technique can improve the students’ listening ability to the second grade students of SMPN 1 Semen Kediri. The researcher suggests that the English teacher should have much creativity in using the dictogloss method. This method is not only makes the students to listen but also to do the other skills. The researcher suggests for the next researcher to implement this technique in other skills also to get the wider generalization of the result of this study.
